Frequently asked questions

FAQ

Why bamboo?

Bamboo fibers create an ultra soft fabric that is smooth and soft to the touch. This non-allergenic fabric is perfect for sensitive and eczema-prone skin and allows for breathability. Because of its strechy properties it also grows with your baby, which means it can be worn for a longer time. Bamboo is temperature-regulating - not too hot, not too cold and we are pretty sure it’s the softest fabric you’ll ever feel. Additionally, Bamboo is grown without the need for pesticides or chemicals and is an extremely renewable resource.

Why organic cotton?

Organic cotton is produced without chemicals and toxins. It’s also produced with organic farming methods that are better for the environment.

The last thing you want to do is expose your baby to harsh chemicals and irritants. When you buy conventional cotton products, you run the risk of potential skin irritants being absorbed into your baby’s skin. When babies are born, their skin is much more sensitive and absorbent than adult skin. Something that may not bother you could still cause a reaction on your baby, that´s why organic cotton is a great choice.

Why bamboo and organic cotton blend fabric?

Because it combines the best and safest fabrics for baby’s skin. The organic cotton part makes the fabric a bit less stretchy, but still stretchy enough and it makes it less delicate and easier to care for than bamboo only.

How should I take care of bamboo clothes and sleeping bags?

Some quick tips:

  • Machine wash with max. 30 degrees celsius
  • Use a gentle cycle
  • Use a mild detergent
  • Include only other bamboo fabrics if possible
  • Zip/button up to prevent potential damage to fabric
  • For clothing with print: Turn the clothes inside out to protect the print
  • For sleeping bags: Zip them up completely to protect the inner quilting and don't wash them inside out
  • Open the sleeping bags when drying them
  • We don`t recommend using the tumble dryer
  • We recommend hanging or laying flat to dry

What makes Issy & Lilo the perfect baby essentials brand?

All our high-quality pieces are thoughtfully crafted using sustainably sourced fabrics and manufactured in trusted and modern factories. As well as being kind to the planet, our fabrics are gentle on a little one’s delicate skin as none of our clothes contains polyester, wool etc. that might be irritating.

When picking out baby clothes, choosing bamboo or bamboo and organic cotton blend items will give you much less to worry about. It can be difficult to understand what is causing skin irritation on infants as they are too little to tell us what’s bothering them, but by choosing organic or non-allergenic fabrics, it’s easier to keep their skin protected.

Why are bamboo and organic cotton better for baby clothes?

Bamboo and organic cotton are ideal for baby clothes due to their natural softness, breathability, and hypoallergenic properties. Bamboo fabric is naturally moisture-wicking and thermoregulating, keeping babies comfortable in various climates. It’s also antibacterial and resistant to odors, making it perfect for delicate, sensitive skin. Organic cotton, free from pesticides and harsh chemicals, offers a soft, non-irritating surface for your baby’s skin. Both fabrics are sustainable and eco-friendly, ensuring a safe and healthy choice for your baby and the environment.

What should I look for in functional and easy-to-use baby clothing?

Prioritize clothing with features like fold-over mittens, two-way zippers, and easy-access snaps. These features make dressing and changing your baby more convenient and less stressful.

What fabrics should I avoid for my baby’s sensitive skin?

If your baby has sensitive skin, it’s important to avoid synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and rayon, as they can trap heat and moisture, leading to skin irritation and rashes. These materials often contain harsh chemicals that can exacerbate skin issues. Instead, opt for natural, breathable fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton, which are hypoallergenic and gentle on delicate skin. According to dermatologists, these natural fabrics reduce the risk of eczema and other skin conditions by providing a soft, chemical-free surface against your baby’s skin.

How can I ensure my baby’s clothes are safe?

Always inspect clothes for potential hazards before dressing your baby. Choose clothes with safety features like chin guards and tag-free labels to prevent irritation and discomfort.

What newborn clothes are essential?

Newborn essentials include rompers, bodysuits, sleeping bags, swaddles, and diaper pants. These items provide comfort and convenience, making them must-haves for new parents.

What should I look for in baby boy clothes?

Choose outfits that are easy to put on and take off, made from soft, breathable fabrics, and versatile enough to layer. Don’t forget to check for safety features like chin guards and tag-free labels.

Why should I consider reusable diapers?

Reusable diapers are eco-friendly, cost-effective, and made from gentle, natural fabrics that reduce the risk of diaper rash. They are also available in a variety of sizes and styles to fit your baby comfortably.

How many outfits does my baby really need?

Babies grow quickly, so they don’t need a vast wardrobe. Start with a few essentials, like bodysuits, sleeping bags, rompers and swaddles, and add more as needed.

What are the best fabrics for baby winter clothes?

Organic cotton is ideal for baby winter clothes because it is warm, breathable, and gentle on sensitive skin. These fabrics help regulate body temperature, ensuring your baby stays comfortable in colder weather.

How do I ensure my baby’s clothes are durable and long-lasting?

To ensure your baby’s clothes are durable and long-lasting, choose high-quality fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton. These materials are not only gentle on the skin but also maintain their integrity through multiple washes. Look for reinforced seams, double stitching, and high GSM (grams per square meter) fabric, which indicates durability. According to consumer reports, natural fibers like organic cotton last longer and retain their softness, making them a smart investment for your baby’s wardrobe. Proper care, such as washing with mild detergents, also extends the life of baby clothes.

Why is it important to choose sustainable baby clothing?

Choosing sustainable baby clothing is crucial for both your baby’s health and the environment. Sustainable fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton are grown without harmful chemicals, reducing the risk of skin irritations and allergies. These materials are also biodegradable, meaning they have a lower environmental impact. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the textile industry is a significant contributor to pollution, but opting for sustainable clothing can help reduce your carbon footprint. Additionally, supporting eco-friendly brands encourages more responsible manufacturing practices globally.

Do I need to use special laundry detergent for my baby’s clothes?

Yes, it’s recommended to use special laundry detergent for your baby’s clothes, especially if they have sensitive skin. Regular detergents often contain harsh chemicals, fragrances, and dyes that can leave residues on fabric, leading to skin irritation. Dermatologists advise using hypoallergenic, fragrance-free detergents specifically designed for baby clothes. These detergents are gentle yet effective in cleaning, ensuring that your baby’s clothes are free from potential irritants. Studies have shown that using mild detergents reduces the risk of eczema and other skin conditions in infants.

How can I know if my baby has sensitive skin or eczema?

If your baby has sensitive skin or eczema, you may notice signs like redness, dryness, itching, or small bumps, especially after contact with certain fabrics, lotions, or environmental factors. Eczema often appears as patches of dry, flaky skin, commonly on the face, elbows, or behind the knees. Babies with sensitive skin may react to synthetic fabrics, detergents with harsh chemicals, or extreme temperatures. If these symptoms persist, it’s important to consult a pediatrician for a proper diagnosis and care plan. Using hypoallergenic fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton can help prevent irritation and manage symptoms effectively.

While we try to keep our sizing as consistent as possible, our products are sewn by hand, which means there can be slight variations within each product. Measurements of our fabric may be 1-3 cm different due to the natural stretch of the bamboo fabric.
